One snowy winter day in Boston, I received a postcard from Florida from one of my students who was on the college's golf team. As soon as the tournament had ended, he wrote, he would return to class. He indicated that he would like to meet with me and "catch up with what I missed." Four weeks after our class had started, he returned with a nice tan and asked: "Did I miss anything important?" A week later, he walked out during the midterm test and dropped the class.
