1. Show up for class. If I have two students with borderline grades, the one who showed up for every class may get the benefit of my good mood during grading.
2. Always review the chapters before going to class. Then the lecture makes much more sense, especially if it's a difficult course.
3. Find a study group and review the material together. It takes more time, but it's worth it.
4. Smart students choose their professors first, then worry about the time or the day when the class is offered. Smart students know that nothing is more exciting and motivating than having an outstanding professor, even if it's at 8 a.m. on a Friday.
