At Winslow, the No. 8 Winslow Bulldogs (8-2) beat No. 9-seeded Empire (7-4) in the first round of the Class 3A state tournament Saturday. After starting the season 6-0, the Ravens dropped four of their last five games.

This was the third straight year the Ravens made the playoffs. They are 1-3 overall in playoff appearances.

Empire coach Jorge Mendivil's record is 29-23 in five seasons with the school.

Quarterback Mito Mendivil entered the game with a Southern Arizona-high 1,967 yards passing.
