The match only lasted for about 50 minutes.
UA coach Dave Rubio’s post-game chat with his team was only about 15 minutes shorter.
No. 3 Washington handled the Wildcats, winning 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-18) at McKale Center on Sunday, never trailing, and Rubio wasn’t all too happy about it.
“No positives,” said Rubio, whose team dropped to 17-9, 7-7 in the Pac-12. “Other than when the game was finished. That was the most positive thing that happened today.”
The Wildcats finished with a season-worst .067 hit percentage, with 23 errors. Which isn’t exactly the recipe for upsetting a team like Washington (21-1, 13-1).
It certainly didn’t help that Arizona fell into quick 5-1, 4-1 and 8-3 holes in all three sets.
“When you give a team 4-5 points in the beginning its hard to get out of the hole,” said outside hitter Taylor Arizobal. “It’s definitely a momentum killer.”
The Huskies never trailed in the match, and the closest Arizona came was in the second set, when Arizobal knotted things up at 15-15. But, Arizona couldn’t take it any further, and UW scored 10 of the next 15 points to wrap things up in the set.
It was tied again in the third set, at 8-8 after Washington committed four straight attack errors, but the Huskies outscored Arizona 17-10 the rest of the way to clinch the match.
“I just think all around we didn’t do the things we practiced and we couldn’t execute,” said UA outside hitter Madi Kingdon, who had 15 kills and 11 errors. “We weren’t getting kills. I just don’t think everybody showed up ready to play today.”
It was the Wildcats’ fourth loss in their last six matches since they upset then-No.1 USC at McKale on Oct. 20.
“I’m certainly disappointed,” Rubio said. “I think that our execution was poor, we weren’t sharp. We really looked disjointed and I didn’t think our continuity was good. We weren’t connecting at all from a team standpoint.
“I don’t remember playing this poorly all season.”
Arizona will take on Utah on Thursday night at 7 at McKale Center. Utah (17-9, 6-8 Pac-12) fell to No. 6 Stanford 3-0 Sunday.
