The University of Arizona softball team didn’t waste much time in burying UTEP at Hillenbrand Stadium on Wednesday, scoring five first-inning runs before the visitors managed to record an out.
The Wildcats (15-1) had 14 hits — including three home runs — to go along with masterful pitching on their way to an easy 14-1 victory over the Miners.
Kenzie Fowler (2-0) pitched three innings to pick up the win, allowing UTEP’s lone hit. Nancy Bowling pitched two spotless innings to finish the game.
Freshman Katiyana Mauga went deep with the bases loaded in the second inning for Arizona. It was the San Diego native’s second consecutive day hitting a grand slam.
Kellie Fox, who leads the Pac-12 with seven round-trippers, also hit a homer and had four RBIs. Former Pima College star Cynthia Pelayo capped the Wildcats’ home run derby with her third-inning blast.
