Four-time first-team All-American Caitlin Lowe, one of the Arizona Wildcats' all-time softball greats, was today named the team's operations director.

Lowe, a two-time national champion and later a 2008 Olympic silver medalist, will take over for Alicia Hollowell. Hollowell, a former UA pitching great, was promoted to assistant coach earlier this summer.

"She’s always been a really good student of the game," UA coach Mike Candrea said of Lowe. "It’s good to have people with her experiences around the program, especially having been so successful here."

Lowe will join the UA in early September, at the conclusion of her National Pro Fastpitch season.

The UA also formally announced Mark Blair as its volunteer assistant. Blair spent the last two years as Pima College's pitching coach.

The UA starts its fall practices Sept. 4.
