Larry Ray, a fixture at Hillenbrand Stadium an assistant softball coach for 21 years, announced his resignation today.

Ray worked for UA coach Mike Candrea from 1986-95 and again since 2002, serving as the interim head coach twice while Candrea ran the U.S. Olympic team.

On April 29, Ray was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage domestic violence and two counts of disorderly conduct domestic violence after police said he smashed his wife's car with a sledgehammer at their home.

The UA has not announced whether Alicia Hollowell, the operations director who took Ray's place as a full-time coach for the final week of the season and the playoffs, will remain in that role. If so, the Wildcats figure to hire a new operations director.
