In overnight Olympic action, two athletes with Southern Arizona ties have advanced to the next round of their swimming events.

Tucson resident Clark Burckle advanced to this afternoon’s semifinals after placing second in his heat of the 200-meter breast stroke.

Former University of Arizona swimmer Jean Basson helped his South African relay team qualify for the men’s 4x200 final this afternoon.

Arizona’s seven-time All-American, Nicolas Nilo-Oliveira, was third in his qualifying heat of the 100 free. The Brazilian swimmer did not advance to the next round.

Current Wildcat soccer player, Ana-Maria Montoya, is in action this morning as her Colombian soccer team is playing France.
