One postseason begins this week and four others conclude.
The busy stretch is highlighted by the opening of the football and volleyball playoffs and the conclusion of the boys state golf and Division IV state soccer tournaments. Also on tap this week are the cross country and swimming state meets.
It's a jam-packed week that could produce multiple local state champions.
Here's a closer look.
Today-Tuesday
Boys golf: The Division II state tournament begins today at 10:45 a.m., at Silverbell Golf Course.
Canyon del Oro is the two-time defending DII state champions. The Dorados also have the defending individual state champion in senior Jaime Waltmire.
The final round begins Tuesday at 7:30 at Silverbell.
The Division I state tournament is at Aguila Golf Course in Laveen. The opening round begins today at 7:30 a.m., and the final round is Tuesday at the same start time.
Friday
• Football: Ten Southern Arizona teams qualified for the postseason and five earned home matchups.
Two games - Cienega vs. Mountain View and Sabino vs. Nogales - feature two local teams.
Cienega, the No. 8 seed in Division II with an 8-2 mark, will host Mountain View and is looking for payback after falling to the Mountain Lions 21-19 during the regular season. Mountain View finished 7-3.
Sabino, the No. 3 seed in Division III, will welcome No. 14 Nogales. The Sabercats completed a 10-0 regular season Friday with a 31-10 win over Sahuaro. Sabino's closest game this season was a 31-14 win over Cienega in Week 1.
Nogales finished the regular season 8-2 with losses to Salpointe Catholic and Sahuarita.
Both games start at 7 p.m.
Friday-Saturday
• Swimming and diving: The best in the state will head to Skyline Aquatics Center in Mesa for the state meet.
Swimming prelims are Friday and the finals are Saturday. The diving finals for Division I and II are Friday.
On Saturday, the Division II finals begin at 9:30 a.m., for boys and girls. The Division I finals kick off at 2:30 p.m.
Salpointe Catholic is the defending boys state champion and took second on the girls side last season.
Catalina Foothills was the highest local finisher in Division I last year in boys and girls. The boys finished sixth and the girls placed eighth.
Saturday
• Cross country: It will be a long, fun day at Cave Creek Golf Course at the state meet.
The first race - the Division III girls - is at 9:15 a.m., while the final race - the Division II girls - doesn't start until 1 p.m.
Rincon/University's Ryan Silva, Salpointe Catholic's Andy Trouard, Rio Rico's Robert Contreras, Sahuarita's Melissa Williams, Canyon del Oro's Bridgette Doucet and Pusch Ridge Christian's Kyle Cajero and Sarah Macdonald all won sectional meets and will be looking for state titles this weekend.
