In overnight action at the London Olympics, one Southern Arizona swimmer advanced to the next round.

Former Wildcat and NCAA champion Roland Schoeman won his heat of the 50-meter freestyle in 21.92 seconds. The South African qualified for the semifinals at 11:30 a.m. Tucson time.

In his fourth Olympics, Schoeman won gold and silver at the 2004 Games in Athens.

Ex-UA swimmer Albert Subirats swam 53.18 in his heat of the 100 butterfly. Swimming for Venezuela, he did not qualify for the semifinal.

One more athlete with Southern Arizona ties, Andre Igoudala, will take to the basketball court with the U.S. men this afternoon.
