14 days away: Wildcat record-holder Joan Hansen ran in 1984 Olympics

This continues a countdown to the July 27 start of the Olympics with Southern Arizona moments and figures from previous Games.

• Olympics: 1984, Los Angeles

• Local connection: Ran on the University of Arizona track team from 1976 to 1981.

• Known for: Hansen finished eighth in the 3,000 meters at the '84 games. She still holds the best time in the 1,500 meters at the UA with a time of 4 minutes 12.09 seconds. She was inducted into the University of Arizona Sports Hall of Fame in 1987.

• Current: After taking coaching positions at Concordia University and the University of Iowa, she now works as a personal trainer in Texas.
