Two athletes with Southern Arizona ties faltered overnight in the preliminaries of the women's shot put in London.

Tucsonan Jill Camarena-Williams, the U.S. champion, placed eighth in her preliminary flight. Camarena-Williams threw 59 feet 8 inches. The Tucson-trained athlete and a UA volunteer track and field coach is suffering from a back injury.

UA thrower Julie Labonté, the Canadian champion, placed 11th in her preliminary flight with a throw of 57-3.
