NEW YORK - Tucsonan Bernard Lagat regained the American record in the indoor 2 miles Saturday with yet another victory at the Millrose Games.

The 38-year-old Lagat finished in 8 minutes, 9.49 seconds at the Armory to just barely accomplish his goal, lowering Galen Rupp's mark by .23. Lagat now owns the American indoor records at 1,500 meters, 1 mile, 3,000 meters, 5,000 meters and 2 miles.

"I kept digging deeper toward the end," Lagat said.

Lagat has won a record eight titles in Millrose's signature event, the Wanamaker Mile. The last two years, though, he has used the storied indoor meet to set a different kind of standard.

He reclaimed the 5,000 record here a year ago. But on the same day, Rupp broke his mark in the 2 miles, so Lagat took on that race this year.

University of Arizona senior Brigetta Barrett finished second in the women's high jump with a height of 6 feet 1 1/2 inches. Inika McPherson, who formerly competed at Cal but who competed unattached, was first with fewer jumps at the tied height.

Former Wildcat Liz Patterson, competing unattached, was fifth with a jump of 5-10 1/2.

In the women's 400 meters, UA senior Georganne Moline was third with a time of 53.23. Mary Wineberg of New York won the event in 52.19.

UA's Lawi Lalang was fifth in the mile with a time of 3:54.56, a school record. Lopez Lomong won the event in 3:51.21.
