The last two times he's played in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, Matt Kuchar has lost to the eventual champion.

In 2011, he lost to Luke Donald in the semifinals, before beating Bubba Watson in the consolation match. Last year, Kuchar fell to Hunter Mahan in the quarterfinals.

This year, he may not lose at all.

Kuchar beat one of the hottest players in the field this afternoon, Robert Garrigus, 3 and 2, to advance to tomorrow morning's semifinals. He'll face the winner of the Graeme McDowell-Jason Day match.

Day had a one-shot lead on McDowell on the back nine. The Australian beat Watson in this morning's third round to advance to face McDowell.

The 2010 Match Play champion Ian Poulter is close to advancing to the semifinals. He has a three-shot lead on the back nine against Steve Stricker.
