Matt Kuchar outlasted defending champion Hunter Mahan 2 and 1 this afternoon to win the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain.

Kuchar took the lead after winning the fourth hole and never looked back. He built a four-shot lead after eight holes and then hung on the back nine to earn his first ever WGC title.

Kuchar beat Jason Day this morning in the semifinals 4 and 3 to advance to the finals.

The 34-year-old American was dominant all week, not having to play the 18th hole in any of his matches and playing No. 17 just twice.

Mahan fell short in his bid to become the first back-to-back Match Play champion since Tiger Woods pulled the trick in 2003 and 2004. The first time Mahan trailed this week is when Kuchar took the lead on No. 4.
