Playing Glendale Cactus' Kale Davidson on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff, the CDO junior had two options.
He could lay up on the fairway like Davidson, leaving a decently long third shot or go for the green.
He went for it.
Waltmire blasted a 5-wood and saw his ball blow by Davidson's and land just short of the green. After a short chip, Waltmire birdied the par-5 third and held off Davidson, who parred, to claim the Division II state championship at Randolph North with a two-day, 2-under score of 142.
