Nothing that Krystal Quihuis accomplishes anymore really surprises Mike Hultgrist, the associate head coach for Salpointe Catholic's girls golf team.

Hultgrist has been around the Lancers for a while, and he coached Sara Brown, an LPGA vet and former Michigan State standout.

But nobody, he said, is like Krystal Quihuis.

Especially because he barely has to coach her.

"I offer very minimal suggestions to her," said Hultgrist, a former UA golfer. "I've seen great players' swings get ruined because too many people are in their ear, so she'll ask occasionally, 'Where should I aim?' and that kind of stuff, but that's about it."

So when she was named to the West team at the prestigious Wyndham Cup, and soon after the U.S. team for the Solheim Cup, Hultgrist was, again, unsurprised.

"Her play got her in that spot," Hultgrist said, "I mean look what she's done.

"I've coached a lot of people, including Sara Brown, but nobody works harder than Krystal. After she plays, she'll go back and putt for another hour."

In terms of accolades and accomplishments, the list is lengthy for Quihuis - and the UA commit is just entering her senior year.

Her team won at the Wyndham Cup in mid-July, and she was selected as one of 12 golfers from across the country to compete in the Junior Solheim Cup, which will be played Aug. 12-14 at the Inverness Golf Club in Englewood, Colo.

"It means so much to me because it was one of my goals to make it to the Wyndham Cup and the Solheim," Quihuis said. "I'm just going to try and win all of my matches, help the team as much as I can, and hopefully we'll win."

Here's a look at Quihuis' promising career, past, present and future, as she heads into her final season at Salpointe.

Past

Even if you just look at it in terms of ways Krystal Quihuis has been honored by the Star, she is pretty well accomplished.

She's a two-time girls golf athlete of the year and a three-time All-Southern Arizona first-team member. Plus, our columnist Greg Hansen has included Quihuis in his annual "Southern Arizona's Top 100 sports figures" list the last two years.

Oh, and she's a two-time state champion.

"She's had an awesome year," said her father, Albert Quihuis. "She's come a long way, and it's pretty amazing just to see her progress to what she's become now."

Present

As the start of the school year is around the corner, Quihuis is still participating in tournaments and will miss a bit of school because of the Solheim Cup. But, Hultgrist isn't too worried about it since Quihuis is a "great student," he said.

Which is good, considering she might be in the argument as the top high school girls golf prospect in Tucson's history.

"We're very fortunate to have her," Hultgrist said.

Future

In short, the future is bright for the Lancers star.

And she has a career at the UA, playing for head coach Laura Iannello and the Wildcats, to look forward to.

"You can't go wrong with the U of A," said her father.

Hultgrist added: "It's a great catch for them. She's definitely going to be an All-American."

And Quihuis is already setting goals for her Wildcats career.

"I'm looking forward to trying to help the team as much as I can."

"And," she said, "hopefully win the NCAA championship."
