At Desert View, the Jaguars (1-5) executed well on both sides of the ball against Sahuaro (5-1) but ultimately their special teams denied them the victory. Sahuaro’s Qwaundre Yancy silenced the Desert View crowd on its homecoming night by returning the opening kickoff 95 yards for a score.

• Highlight reel: Sahuaro blocked a 46-yard Desert View field goal attempt before the half ended. It was scooped up by Shyyrod Holton and returned for a score to put the Cougars up 21-7.

• Player of the game: Desert View QB Dante Austin shouldered the load for the Jaguars, rushing for 102 yards and the team’s two touchdowns.

• By the numbers: 13. The number of points Sahuaro scored on special teams in its victory.

• He said it: “Special teams is so important if not more important than offense and defense. It can change the momentum instantly.” — Austin
