UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - Arizona Wildcats coaches have talked to a handful of Penn State players about transferring in the wake of NCAA penalties, coach Rich Rodriguez said Tuesday.

Speaking at Pac-12 media day, Rodriguez - who has numerous Pennsylvania connections - said players have contacted UA assistants over the last two days after the NCAA imposed a four-year bowl ban and a major reduction in football scholarships in connection with a sexual abuse scandal.

The Wildcats took calls "from a couple guys because we know 'em," he said.

Regardless of which schools they choose, Rodriguez said he expects a resolution quickly. The NCAA ruling permits players to transfer to other institutions immediately.

Schools that add Penn State players can count the scholarships toward either this year or next year's totals.

"I don't know if any of them will come, or if it'll work out with them," Rodriguez said. "The turnaround's going to be pretty quick. The timing's not good for any of them."

Rodriguez said he and his assistants know "more than a dozen" players on the Nittany Lions' roster, mostly from their time spent coaching in the Midwest and on the East Coast. Rodriguez recruited Penn State quarterback Rob Bolden to Michigan.

Arizona will add only impact players, Rodriguez said. Asked for specifics, the UA coach played coy.

"Anybody that can play defense," he said with a chuckle. "Anybody fast."
