Mike Stoops didn’t have to look far to find his new offensive coordinator.
Make that coordinators.
Assistants Bill Bedenbaugh and Seth Littrell have been promoted to co-offensive coordinators, Stoops told the Star tonight.
Bedenbaugh, 37, has coached the Wildcats’ offensive line and served as running game coordinator since 2007. Littrell, 31, just finished his first season as Arizona’s running backs and tight ends coach. Before that, he spent four seasons as the running backs coach at Texas Tech.
“You always want to promote from within, to give guys an opportunity to move forward,” Stoops said. “We’ve come to this conclusion.”
Additionally, Stoops has hired Louisiana Tech offensive coordinator Frank Scelfo to coach the Wildcats’ quarterbacks. Scelfo spent 11 years at Tulane before going to Louisiana Tech, the last eight as the Green Wave’s offensive coordinator.
Earlier internet reports said Scelfo would serve as the Wildcats’ offensive coordinator, but Stoops called the rumors “not true.”
“Our thought was to bring in a quarterbacks coach with experience and maturity, and certainly Frank brings that with his skill,” Stoops said.
