Tim Kish will serve as the Arizona Wildcats' defensive coordinator for the Dec. 29 Alamo Bowl and beyond, coach Mike Stoops said Friday.

Kish, 56, spent the regular season as the UA's co-defensive coordinator, sharing the job with secondary coach Greg Brown.

Brown accepted a job at the University of Colorado last week; rather than pursue another co-coordinator, Stoops said, he will give the job to Kish outright.

"Tim's our defensive coordinator," Stoops said.

Kish served as defensive coordinator at Illinois (1997-2000), Ohio University (2001) and Indiana (2002-3) before joining Stoops' staff as linebackers coach in 2004. He was promoted to co-defensive coordinator last January, when Mark Stoops left for Florida State.

Stoops said Friday that he will likely hire a secondary coach in the weeks following Arizona's bowl game. The Wildcats' staff isn't expected to change in the next 11 days, though co-offensive coordinator Bill Bedenbaugh has been linked to a potential opening at West Virginia.

Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen was named the Mountaineers' head-coach-in-waiting this week; he's expected to overhaul the program's offensive staff over the next month.

Arizona's new defensive tackles coach, Joe Salave'a, attended Friday's practice. He will officially start work Monday.

"We're going to go in with the staff we have here," Stoops said. "Hopefully, that won't change between now and Dec. 29."
