The UA burned through three placekickers and two special teams coaches last fall in an attempt to fix some serious kicking problems.

Rich Rodriguez has a solution: PVC pipe.

The Arizona Wildcats’ first-year coach has outfitted the Jimenez Practice Facility’s north-side field goal post with a white pipe bracket, narrowing the space between the uprights.

College football goal posts are set 18 feet 6 inches apart; the Wildcats’ practice pipes make it closer to 12 feet.

“It’s the old target-shooting thing: Aim small, miss small,” Rodriguez said. “If they can make it through the white (posts), they can make it through the yellow ones.”
