Perhaps the lesson learned is this: When it doubt, pick the winner.
The Pac-12 named Stanford quarterback Josh Nunes, and not Arizona's Matt Scott, as the conference’s offensive player of the week today.
Nunes completed 21 of 34 passes for a career-high 360 yards and two touchdowns in Stanford’s 54-48 win over the UA. He also ran in three scores, two of them coming as the Cardinal rallied from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime. Cardinal tailback Stepfan Taylor rushed in the game-winning score after Scott was intercepted in overtime.
Scott set a handful of UA and Pac-12 records in the losing effort, including:
• Most pass attempts (69) in UA and Pac-12 history.
• Most completions (45) in UA and Pac-12 history.
• Most consecutive pass attempts without an interception (68) in program history.
• Most offensive plays (103) in program and Pac-12 history.
• Most yards gained (617) by a UA team in a confernece game.
Cal cornerback Kameron Jackson and USC tight end Randall Telfer were named the league’s defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
