Ka’Deem Carey’s pretrial hearing on charges of disorderly conduct and assault has been postponed to April 23 at the defense’s request.

Carey was expected to appear in Tucson City Court at 10 a.m., but never did. Instead, his lawyer and a city prosecutor huddled in the downtown courtroom for several minutes.

Both then exited without comment.

City prosecutor Baird Greene later said the defense asked for more time to investigate the charges, which stem from an incident between Carey and his pregnant ex-girlfriend in December. Carey’s lawyer also wants to interview the police officers involved, Greene said.

Carey, the Wildcats’ star running back and nation’s reigning rushing camp, has been practicing with the team during spring drills. He’s expected to be on the field when the Wildcats work out at 3:40 p.m. today.

Today's postponement marks the third time Carey's pretrial hearing has been rescheduled.
