For decades, the Arizona Wildcats' gridiron legends have been synonymous with the jersey numbers they've worn.
But who's the best?
Play our numbers game, as we ask the question: Who is the quintessential UA football player to wear each number?
Who wore it best?
The number: 1
The showdown: Bruce Hill vs. Bobby Wade
Bruce Hill (1973-75)
The stats: Hill completed 339 of 680 pass attempts for 5,090 yards, holding the UA career passing record when he graduated.
He finished with 45 passing touchdowns and 6,054 total yards, both school records at the time.
The details: The captain of the 1975 team that finished 9-2, the first-team All-WAC quarterback went 128 pass attempts without an interception. He set the total offense record at the time with 451 against New Mexico in 1975.
The postscript: The leader of the "1-2-3 Offense" - he was the 1 - was not drafted as a quarterback, part of the Arizona trend that ended last year when Nick Foles was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Bobby Wade (1999-2002)
The stats: No UA receiver has posted more catches in a season than Wade's 93 in 2002, nor has any receiver gained more yards in his career than Wade's 3,351. He caught a pass in 42 straight games, tied for the school record.
The details: Wade was the UA's best receiver for three of his four years, leading the team in receptions from 2000 to 2002.
His 4,785 all-purpose yards is fifth on the Wildcats' career list. Wade's 230 catches are second only to Mike Thomas' 259, and his 23 touchdown catches are fifth in school history.
The postscript: Wade was drafted in the fifth round by the Chicago Bears in 2003, and played for four NFL teams until being released in 2010.
The one-sentence debate: Hill put the "1" in the "1-2-3 Offense," but Wade is statistically the greatest receiver in Wildcats history.
