Safety Adam Hall is "not part of the program" anymore, coach Rich Rodriguez said Thursday, effectively ending the Tucsonan's career with the Arizona Wildcats.
Hall hasn't been seen at practices or in meetings for weeks, Rodriguez said. It's unclear whether Hall, who underwent his second knee surgery in as many years last spring, plans to play collegiately again.
"Maybe he's doing rehab or something like that, but I haven't seen him as part of our daily program," Rodriguez said. "It's been about a month. I've been working with the guys who have been here every day."
Hall remains on scholarship and, as such, must be included on the team's official roster. But both sides have clearly moved on. Last week, safety Wayne Capers Jr. was assigned jersey No. 12 - Hall's old number. Hall's replacement in the starting lineup, Jared Tevis, has been one of the team's top defenders through the first half of the season. The UA (3-3 overall, 0-3 Pac-12) is idle this week.
Hall is a senior with a redshirt year remaining. Should he graduate on time, Hall would have the option to transfer as a fifth-year player without having to sit out.
Oklahoma would be an intriguing option: Former UA coach Mike Stoops, former linebackers coach Tim Kish and former secondary coach Ryan Walters are all part of the Sooners' defensive staff.
Thursday's news capped a mostly disappointing career for Hall, who arrived at the UA three years ago after being named a Parade All-American at Palo Verde High School.
Hall started just eight games in three seasons. He was dynamic when healthy, registering 83 tackles and two interceptions. But Hall tore his right ACL during spring drills two years ago, and played in just one game as a junior last fall. Hall seemed poised for a comeback, but injured the same knee in this year's spring game.
Hall and Rodriguez met at the end of training camp to determine his role. He watched practices for a few weeks, Rodriguez said, then stopped.
