Dick Tomey is coming out of retirement.
The winningest coach in Arizona Wildcats football history has accepted a job on the University of Hawaii’s coaching staff, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported today. He is expected to coach the Warriors’ special teams.
Tomey, 72, served as Hawaii’s head coach from 1977-87 before being hired by Arizona, where he stayed until 2000. Tomey will assist Warriors coach Greg McMackin; he replaces Chris Tormey, who left his post as special teams/secondary coach for a job at Washington State.
Tomey and his wife, author Nanci Kincaid, live near Honolulu. The University of Hawaii is located in nearby Manoa.
