The UA women's cross country team is ranked No. 1 nationally for the first time in program history.
The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association listed the Wildcats first in their weekly poll, released this morning. Arizona was ranked No. 3 nationally a week ago.
Arizona is coming off a rousing weekend win at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational. The Wildcats finished first in a field that included former No. 1 Providence, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 9 Michigan State and No. 28 Iowa State.
Sophomore Kayla Beattie took seventh place overall in the 6,000-meter race and posted a time of 19 minutes 56 seconds. Freshman Maria Larsson’s time of 20:07 was good for 15th place; junior Nicci Corbin (18th place, 20:09) and senior Elvin Kibet (21st place, 20:12) helped the Wildcats finish first.
