Greg Wenneborg is in his eighth season of coaching cross country at Pima College and this year’s squads are the smallest he’s had.

But his goals and expectations remain the same: finish in the top 10 at nationals.

The women’s team has achieved it six years in a row, peaking out at fifth place in 2008, while the men have only cracked it once.

Despite having just nine runners on each team, Wenneborg thinks this could be the first time they both do it in the same year.

“If everyone is healthy we certainly have as good a shot as any year,” Wenneborg said.

The Aztecs opened the season earlier this month in Flagstaff and will compete in the UA-hosted Dave Murray Invitational on Friday. Because of injuries, it’s not set who will be running.
