Pima College freshman libero Courtney Pitts was selected as the Arizona Daily Star girls high school volleyball player of the year last fall.

Since then, she hasn’t missed a beat.

The 5-foot 3-inch Catalina product who leads the Aztecs with 312 digs was just named the ACCAC Division II Player of the Week.

She also received All-Tournament honors at the 13-team San Diego City College Tournament two weeks ago.

“I think she was the best libero in the gym,” Pima coach Dan Bithell said. “It was evident that once people recognized what she was capable of they stopped trying to let her touch the ball.

“That’s obviously a sign of respect that they know she can produce and keep things going for us defensively.”

Pitts has also been extremely valuable for the Aztecs who have won nine of their last 10 matches and are undefeated at home with five of their final seven matches coming there.
