Sean Miller says he's optimistic that both Grant Jerrett and Brandon Ashley will make the McDonald's All-American rosters Thursday.

But he also knows the decisions won't mean a thing when practices start in October.

"It's just a brand new beginning," Miller said of college. The McDonalds honors are "reflective of how talented these kids are before they get to your school but no question you judge them by the standards of college once they get here."

Miller said he could point to a prime example in Colorado's Spencer Dinwiddie, who averages 10.8 points for the Buffs as a starting wing. Dinwiddie barely made the Rivals.com Top 150 out of high school at 146 last season, much less the McDonald's team.

"The starting line in college doesn't take into consideration whether you were McDonald's All-American or not," Miller said. "When you look at his performance at Colorado as a freshman and what he does at the college level, no one's checking back to see where he was as a high school senior."

Jerrett and Ashley are the Wildcats' best bets to make the McDonald's game, although Gabe York was believed to merit strong consideration. Arizona's fourth signee, Kaleb Tarczewski, is not eligible because he reclassified to the 2012 class.

The selections will be announced Thursday at 3 p.m. MT on ESPNU.

Tad Boyle says he is challenging the Buffaloes to play better on the road this week. Colorado is 7-0 at home but 1-3 on the road in Pac-12 play so far.

Jared Cunningham says it's a long shot at this point that he will leave OSU after the season for the NBA.
