Saturday’s game won’t be the first time that Sean Miller and Texas Tech interim coach Chris Walker have faced off.

In the early 1990s, Walker was a point guard at Villanova under Rollie Massimino, while Miller played the same spot for Pitt.

“Sean was a great player, very heady, very smart, and he was a great shooter and a great ballhandler,” Walker said. “I loved competing against him and it’s just awesome to have a chance to coach against him.”

When asked about Walker, Miller said, “I just know him from (playing), that’s all.”

This is Walker’s first stint as a head coach, though he has worked under Steve Alford at New Mexico and Jay Wright at Villanova. Miller, of course, worked on the staffs at Wisconsin, Miami (Ohio), Pitt, N.C. State and Xavier before becoming Xavier’s head coach in 2004 and UA’s head coach in 2009.

“You just never knew that he would have ended up at Arizona, being from the East and you never knew I’d be at Texas Tech,” Walker said. “It works out in wild ways.”
