After his Golden Eagles lost at New Mexico State on Saturday, coach Donnie Tyndall issued a warning.

"I told our guys if we thought New Mexico State was big and physical, they look like a JV team compared to Arizona," Tyndall said. "If we don't play with more grit and physicality, match them in toughness, it could get ugly quick.

"We've got to do a good job blocking out and not give up second shots."

Tyndall indicated concern over the Golden Eagles' three-point shooting, which is just 30.9 percent for the season, but said forward Jonathan Mills has been the team's best player so far.

"He's probably 6-4, a tough, hard-nosed kid who played a lot of minutes last year," Tyndall said.

Mills is listed at 6-6. Southern Miss has no starters listed taller than he is.

Our scouting report today discussed Southern Miss more in depth, and we had a feature on Golden Eagles forward Michael Craig, a native of Phoenix. (There was no UA media availability in advance of tonight's game).

Here's the official game notes from Arizona and from Southern Miss.

Brandon Ashley's recent play hasn't just vaulted him into the UA starting lineup -- it's also made him a player to watch for Spurs fans in case he leaves after this season.

Ashley, Kaleb Tarczewski and Grant Jerrett are all projected by Draft Express as first-round NBA picks in the 2014 NBA Draft.

There are issues at Clemson, which will host Arizona on Saturday. Starting guard T.J. Sapp is leaving the team, though a Clemson official said former McDonalds All-American Milton Jennings is expected to return from a suspension on Saturday.
