I've tried all week to get first-hand information on Eloy Vargas, the late addition to UA's 2010 target list that I only briefly mentioned in my last recruiting story. But it's been difficult since his juco coach says he's handling the recruitment "in house" ...
So here's what I've found so far:
He's a 6-10, 220-pound rebounder/shot blocker from the Dominican Republic who played high school basketball in Florida and was highly rated in the class of 2008 but had a forgettable freshman season at Florida thanks to ankle trouble and academic issues.
He initially drew speculation that he was headed to Kentucky but transferred instead to Miami-Dade, where he can get a two-year degree and be eligible immediately next season, with a redshirt year available if he needs it.
Doron Lamb told Adam Zagoria today that he has finally made a decision. He is scheduled to announce it Saturday at the Jordan Brand Classic game, but he not expected to pick Arizona or St. John's, saying it was too late for Steve Lavin to recruit him.
Josh Selby, meanwhile, says he's still mulling things over.
And Terrence Jones says he will decide soon. Guess he's not waiting on Oregon's coaching search anymore...
Elston Turner is transferring from Washington.
Colorado's AD calls Mike Dunlap one of two "intriguing candidates" for the Buffs job.
