Sean Miller says he's happy that the NCAA's final punishment will not affect current players nor the recruiting targets he is chasing.

But there are at least a few restrictions the Arizona Wildcats basketball coach will have to deal with as a result of violations the NCAA found during the end of the Lute Olson era and ruled on today:

1 - He'll have to give up a scholarship not only in 2011-12 but also in 2012-13 (UA had self-sanctioned only a lost scholarship in 2011-12). The Wildcats will have at least three scholarships open after the 2011-12 season though the 2012 is loaded with West Coast talent that I'm sure Miller would love to load up on if he could. He may only be able to add two or three with this restriction.

2 - UA can only host six official recruiting visits during the next two academic seasons. While it is true that many recruits take their visits unofficially during their sophomore and junior seasons, rendering official visits unnecessary, there is also a trend of top-notch players waiting until after their senior years to make a decision (as did Doron Lamb and Josh Selby). Those are the guys you want to bring in for an official visit during a Pac-10 weekend, so as to show them McKale Center at its best. Now Miller may have to be careful with whom he offers a chance to do so.

3 - UA will only have 100 person-days to recruit on the road in 2010-11, down from a maximum of 30. No doubt UA coaches won't need the extra time to evaluate but recruiting is also in large part about showing up to let recruits know how much they care. Now they have 30 fewer days to show some love than their competitors do.

4 - UA's 19 wins in 2007-08 will be vacated, though their NCAA tournament appearance under Kevin O'Neill will count. If they had beaten West Virginia, however, that win would have been taken away.

5 - The 2007-08 statistics of Jamelle Horne and either Jerryd Bayless or Zane Johnson will be erased from the UA record books because they were ineligible that season based on benefits they received during the 2006 Cactus Classic. Bayless did not play in the Cactus Classic, though he was on hand and it is possible he received benefits. (The NCAA and UA reports do not specify which players it was.)

6 - There's two years of probation through July 2012, meaning Miller and his staff will be under even more of a microscope.
