"Soup" will be on for the Tucson Padres when they return to Kino Stadium Saturday night.

Former big-league star Jeff Suppan will make his Tucson Padres debut when the club takes on Salt Lake at 7:05 p.m.

Suppan, 37, had been sidelined for the first two weeks of the Triple-A season with a right triceps injury. He'll face the Bees' Matt Shoemaker. Salt Lake's starter for Sunday will be Brad Mills, a former Arizona Wildcats standout who spent the previous few seasons in the Toronto organization.

Suppan, the 2006 NLCS Most Valuable Player, signed with the Padres last offseason to add organizational depth. He went 11-8 with a 4.78 ERA last season for Triple-A Omaha, the Kansas City Royals' top minor-league affiliate.

Suppan left his family restaurant, "Soups Grill" in Woodland Hills, Calif., for another shot at the big leagues. The big-league Padres could use him: San Diego is 3-11 so far this season, and has lost two of its five starting pitchers to injuries.
