Tonight's boys soccer match between Salpointe Catholic and Sabino came to sudden and scary end when an official collapsed on the field.

Coaches and trainers immediately ran out to assist referee Mike Chaisson and had to use a defibrillator to aid him. Chaisson was later taken by ambulance to University of Arizona Medical Center, and is now in stable condition, Salpointe coach Wolfgang Weber coach said.

"It was really a shock to everybody," Weber said by phone.

The match, held at Salpointe, was locked in a scoreless tie in the 25th minute when Chaisson collapsed. Weber said there is a possibility the two will play Thursday night at Salpointe to make up the game.

"There was really no way we could even think about continuing the game," Weber said. "It was really quite scary."

Salpointe, ranked 12th in the Division II rankings, will play at Rincon/University on Wednesday night while Sabino hosts Desert View.
