Salpointe Catholic coach Dennis Bene confirmed today that starting quarterback Andrew Cota will miss the next 4-5 weeks with a broken left forearm.

He had surgery Wednesday.

Cota injured the arm in the team's second game of the season against Scottsdale Chaparral. Doctors diagnosed it as a hyperextended elbow and cleared him to play against Tucson High.

After exiting the Tucson game in the fourth quarter (it was 44-7), Cota again got checked out by doctors. This time he went for an X-ray and was diagnosed with a broken left forearm.

Bene is hopeful Cota will return for the Oct. 12 game against Nogales.

Read more about Cota's injury and Salpointe's plan going forward in Friday's Berk's Beat.
