Salpointe Catholic quarterback Andrew Cota is ahead of schedule after suffering a broken left forearm earlier this season. Cota, a junior, could return in time for Salpointe's game next week against Flowing Wells.

The quarterback was cleared for practice this week and returned to the practice field. Coach Dennis Bene said he looks strong and the team is eager to get him back.

Even with missing the last three weeks, Cota is still the fifth leading passer in Southern Arizona.

Bene said when Cota returns, Cameron Denson, who has filled in for Cota, will still see some reps at the position. Bene said Cota will see the majority of snaps, but Denson will still get some packages.

"Cameron has exceeded expectations at quarterback," Bene said. "It would be a disservice if we didn't keep him there somehow."
