Salpointe Catholic linebacker Carlos Carroll committed to Southern Methodist University this past weekend while visiting the campus, according to his dad, Ray.

He also had offers from Air Force and San Diego State.

Carroll, who is listed at 6-feet-3-inches, 215 pounds, had 62 tackles for the Lancers last season including 37 solo stops. He missed the team's playoff game against Scottsdale Notre Dame with a leg injury.

Carroll will be a senior this season for the Lancers, who are expected to be one of the top teams in the state with several starters from last year returning. He's the first local 2013 prospect to commit to a Division I school so far. There should be at least three to four more locals signing including Carroll's teammate OL Travis Fister.
