Salpointe Catholic senior Jay Williams has verbally committed to play football at Brown University.
Williams, a 5-foot-10-inch 185-pound team captain, was the leading rusher for Salpointe this season with 858 yards and 18 touchdowns on 105 carries. He also started at free safety and helped anchor the Lancers' defense which gave up just 7.21 points a game and was key in their 14-0 run to the Division II state championship.
By committing to Brown, Williams will reunite with former Lancer teammate Johnny Peña who graduated from Salpointe last spring and holds the school's career rushing record with 4,681 yards.
Williams, who also had an offer from the University of San Diego, visited Brown in Providence, R.I., just 10 days ago and announced on Twitter this afternoon that he had committed to the FCS Ivy League squad which went 6-4 this past season.
