Salpointe Catholic jumped out to an early lead against Phoenix Paradise Valley in the Division II state championship but couldn't come back from a 15-point deficit.

The fourth-seeded Trojans topped the Lancers 45-39 to win their first state title since 1997.

Salpointe, however, is hoping to be back in the state finals next year with leading scorer Cameron Denson leading the way along with several returners.
