With quarterback Matt Brown heading to TCU, the Arizona Wildcats will turn their attention elsewhere. Luckily, there is one quarterback still considering the UA — and he's a good one.
The tremendously-named Munchie Legaux visited to the UA a few weeks ago, and is considering breaking his verbal commitment to Colorado.
Like Brown, Legaux is a dual-threat quarterback with sparkling prep credentials. The Rivals.com recruiting service lists Legaux, a New Orlenas native, as a three-star recruit and the No. 12 dual-threat quarterback in the nation. By comparison, Brown was ranked 11th.
That's assuming the UA can sell Legaux on its new offense, whatever that is.
Coaches and recruits come and go, especially in the month or so between the bowl games and signing day. Still, Brown's departure is particularly disturbing. The QB was born in Tucson, and raised a UA fan; when he committed last April, Brown said he "got chills" at the thought of becoming the Wildcats' quarterback. The quarterback changed his mind following a frustrating and distressing few days.
Mike Stoops assured Brown that the Wildcats will run the same spread attack, and apparently will name Bill Bedenbaugh as co-offensive coordinator.
Who will coach the quarterbacks — and which quarterbacks will come to the UA — is a question that needs answering.
Nick Foles is expected to start under center this fall as a junior, with juniors Matt Scott and Bryson Beirne backing him up. Richard Morrison was expected to switch to wide receiver, but that may change.
The addition of a guy named Munchie could change all that.
