The Arizona Wildcats began the day by getting a commitment from one of their top defensive recruiting targets.

Calvin Allen, a defensive end from Albuquerque’s La Cueva High School, verbally committed to the UA's 2013 recruiting class this morning.

The Scout.com recruiting service first reported the verbal commitment; Allen did not immediately return a phone and text message seeking comment.

The 6-foot-6-inch, 240-pound Allen chose the UA over offers from Iowa State, New Mexico, New Mexico State and San Diego State. Scout.com lists Allen as a three-star recruit and the nation’s 58th-best defensive end.

Allen is the third defensive player to verbally commit in as many days.

Buckeye’s DeAndre Miller and Santa Rosa, Calif., product Philip Wright both verbally committed to the UA Monday. The additions give Arizona seven new recruits in the last week, and nine since June 8.
