Arizona Wildcats quarterback Matt Scott told his teammates and coaches that he was "good" and "fine" after suffering an apparent concussion in the fourth quarter of today's 39-36 win over No. 10 USC at Arizona Stadium.
Whether team doctors agree, however, is another story.
The UA quarterback took a shot to the head while scrambling for a first down with 6 minutes 49 seconds left in the game and the Wildcats leading by four points. Scott vomited on the field and seemed out of sorts for a few plays before hitting David Richards for a 7-yard touchdowns with 5:36 left.
Backup B.J. Denker finished the game.
Scott told his teammates in the locker room that he was “good”, but was not made available for interviews. Scott told Rodriguez he was fine, the coach said.
“I said, ‘Well, did you tell the doctors that?,” Rodriguez said. “Doctors are taking every precaution, which they should. We’ll see how he does.”
Rodriguez said he’ll defer to the team’s training staff this week. The Wildcats (5-3 overall, 2-3 Pac-12) will travel to UCLA, then finish with games against Colorado, Utah and Arizona State.
Saturday's game marked one of the best of Scott's career, and a signature victory for a player who struggled in losses to Oregon and Oregon State earlier this year.
Scott threw for 369 yards and three touchdowns; he also ran 15 times for 100 yards, becoming the first Wildcats quarterback since Ortege Jenkins in 2000 to rush for triple-digits in a game.
