The Arizona Wildcats didn't have to look far for their new safeties coach.
The program announced this morning that Matt Caponi has been promoted from defensive graduate assistant to safeties coach. Caponi takes over for Tony Gibson, who left the Wildcats last month for West Virginia.
The Wildcats also announced the hiring of Andrew Warsaw as an operations assistant. Warsaw spent the 2012 season at Fordham as the director of operations.
Caponi, a Rodriguez hire, has been on the Wildcats staff for one season. He spent the 2011 season as a graduate assistant at Pitt. Before that, Caponi served as the defensive coordinator at Washington and Jefferson College (Pa.) for three seasons.
He played his college ball at Division III Mount Union and won three national championships. His first coaching job was as a student assistant for the Purple Raiders.
Warsaw was with Rodriguez at West Virginia, where he served as a student manager for four years. He's also worked at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the University of Pennsylvania.
