The Arizona Wildcats have already added copper to their color palette for 2012.
Could a red helmet be next?
At least three UA football players have tweeted this picture of a new red helmet in the last few days. The lid includes Arizona's ubiquitous "block A" logo, and matching red facemask and chinstrap.
However, athletic director Greg Byrne tweeted today that the helmets were "a mock-up that we had in the equipment room."
"At this point," he wrote, "they are not on the radar screen."
The helmets, should Arizona decide to add them, would be the team's fourth option heading into the 2012 season: The team alternated between navy and white helmets for the last two seasons, and announced plans to add the copper helmets last month.
