David Maka, a defensive tackle from Tustin, Calif., committed to Rich Rodriguez and the Arizona Wildcats today.
It's the 27th commitment for Rodriguez and the UA for the 2013 class. Athletes are allowed to sign national letters of intent beginning Wednesday.
The UA offered Maka early Monday morning and he committed right away. He is ranked as a three-star recruit by Scout.com recruiting service and is listed at 6-feet-5-inches and 330 pounds.
“It feels really great to get it out of the way,” said Maka, who officially visited the UA in October for the USC game. “I knew as soon as they offered me that I wanted to play there.”
Maka is expected to play defensive tackle for the Wildcats. He was being recruited as a center by some schools, but said Arizona prefers him on defense. He also held offers from Utah, Colorado State, San Diego State, Utah State and UTEP.
He was also considering Kentucky and Washington.
Rodriguez and his staff are putting the finishing touches on a recruiting class that Scout ranks as 24th best in the country and sixth best in the Pac-12. Maka is just the second defensive tackle in the class, joining Luca Bruno, who committed in August.
