UPDATE: Carey has not been arrested by Tucson Police, a department spokesman said tonight. A search for Carey's name in city and county databases show no pending court dates.
Arizona Wildcats athletic director Greg Byrne and coach Rich Rodriguez issued a statement this afternoon saying they're aware of a restraining order issued to star running back Ka'Deem Carey.
Carey, 20, was served with an order of protection Jan. 2, according to Tucson City Court records. The petition for an order of protection was issued Dec. 26.
“I’ve spoken with Ka’Deem and am aware of the case," Rodriguez said. "We take these matters very seriously and will support the authorities however we can. Once more specific information is available, we will act accordingly."
Byrne said the UA is "fully aware of the situation."
"This is now a matter for the local authorities and we will fully cooperate and assist them as needed," he said. "At this point we will have no further comment."
Carey rushed for 1,929 yards as a sophomore this fall, the most of any player in the country, and was named a consensus first-team All-American. Carey is a Tucson native and graduate of Canyon del Oro High School.
