Natural grass is officially out at Arizona Stadium.

The Arizona Wildcats announced this morning that FieldTurf, a type of artificial turf, will be the new playing surface at Arizona Stadium, replacing natural grass.

The move has been expected and became official this morning.

Arizona is the eighth Pac-12 program to install FieldTurf either in its stadium or practice field.

The exact surface is the FieldTurf Revolution Coolplay, which reduces the surface temperature. FieldTurf has been installed in more than 4,500 fields in North America. In the NFL, 22 of the 32 teams use FieldTurf for either their game and/or practice field.

Installation at Arizona Stadium is expected to start in the next couple of weeks.
